CAREfull Connections

(Worked completed while a student at General Assembly)

Assignment : create a matching website for skills-based volunteers and in country projects around the world.

Research : We started with conversations with several stakeholders :

Joey, a local consultant who had connected General Assembly with CARE

Tatiana, a CARE representative working out of the Brazil Office

Tom, an Executive Director at CARE

Gianluca, a representative from CARE International

This gave us a good initial understanding of who was involved and what the objectives were. It also allowed us to understand who would be using the site and from here we were able to build out personas.

And how these personas would be connected through the site.

Along with our interviews we did some competitive and comparative analysis of other sites that were doing similar tasks as what CAREfull Connections was hoping to accomplish as well as looking at how certain sites accomplished particular tasks that would be relevant to how CAREfull Connections would work.

Sketching : Having spoken with those involved and done our own research we began our initial design phase by sketching both user flows and page wireframes.

Testing and Iteration : Once we had our initial designs worked out, we began our testing with a clickable "paper" prototype, letting Tatiana be our first user.

Taking the feedback we got from our Skype interview and test with Tatiana, primarily focused on how the CARE representatives would use the site, we built out our digital prototype including all of her suggested changes. This next iteration we would put in front on Tom, representing the corporate side of CARE. Tom works with CARE's donors and we wanted to focus much of our discussion on improving our language used throughout the site.

Tom was able to help us streamline and polish the site, preparing us for our most important user test with Martha, representing the donor/potential volunteer side. Additionally Marta also serves on CARE's Board of Directors so she could also give us another point of view from the very top of the organization looking down. It was also very important to us that Martha came away with a positive impression of CAREfull Connections as her support could be the difference in the project moving forward or dying.

As we had hoped the test with Martha were like testing two or three people at once as she was able to discuss the points of view from both within and outside of the organization. Martha also pointed out missing items that neither us or anyone else we had talked with had yet to think about. This final iteration allowed us to confidently move forward creating our final high-fidelity prototype that we would present.
